1 Thessalonnians 5:17:  Take the Phone Book Challenge

In our last blog, we talked about prayer as being a bridge to God’s heart.  As we learn what it means to be personally revived by returning to the Lord, and being restored by His grace – one of the most important things to note is that Christianity is not only about myself, but about others.  For instance, we are to be kind to one another (Ephesians 4:32), forgive one another (Colossians 3:13), and pray for one another (James 5:16)

Years ago, the great evangelist Billy Sunday was preparing for an evangelism campaign in a certain city.  In advance, he called upon the Pastors to provide him with a listing of the names of people who needed the Lord.  The hope was that having the list of names would help Billy pray that their hearts would be prepared to hear the Gospel.  The response?  Billy Sunday was given a phone book for the area.  Apparently, everyone needed prayer!

So here is your challenge for this week:  take one page from the local phone book, and simply pray over all the names you see.  Each person has a different and unique story, struggle, and spiritual battle.  Pray that the Lord will save to the uttermost all these people and that they would grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ.
