A Love that Reaches Out to Those Who Cannot or Will Not Love
"3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints"
Colossians 1:3-4
Can you rejoice at the love that God has placed in your heart for all your neighbors? Love is not something we can properly do unless God is in our life.
Before we got saved, we loved others the best way we knew how to. We might have shown others some mercy, we may have done nice things, and we might have really expressed our thankfulness for those we deemed ‘lovable’. Perhaps we truly tried to help others and, perhaps, we were motivated by some sort of philanthropic, selfless cause. But unless we showed forth the love of Christ, it was an empty temporal affection that does not really quench our thirst for God.
Once we fall in love with Jesus, He gives us a new commandment: love another as I have loved you
(John 13:34). This love reaches out to those who cannot love, refuse to love, or don’t know how to love. After all, when Jesus found us – we were unlovable And while making sure we are in complete agreement to His will is sometimes a process, there’s not a time that God ever stops loving us.
When Jesus walked on the earth, mankind was cruel to Him. They misunderstood his teaching, deliberately turned away from His teachings, tortured Him, accused Him of wrong doings although He was innocent, and mocked Him though He came to take away the sins of the world. After bearing the ridicule of man, He faced the punishment of God for all the bad things you and I have ever done. If there was ANYONE who could justly stop loving us, it was Christ … yet, His love intensified all the more. If He so loved us from eternity past, surely we can love other believers today.
1 John 4:7, “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.”
