James 4 - Grace Overcoming Our Unfaithfulness

Consider who our faithful, true Friend is so we do not become the spiritual adulterers James speaks of in James 4:4.When Jesus walked among the earth before His resurrection, He compared His love for us to a Jewish wedding, often 

comparing Himself as the bridegroom and we, as all believers, the bride.  When a man and woman fell in love, they would become “betrothed”, which was as legal as the marriage covenant though they would not live together until after the wedding ceremony.  The husband would prepare a room or house where he could live with his beloved; only his father would know when it was ready.  If someone ever asked the groom – “When will you and your betrothed get married”, the bridegroom could literally answer, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man … but my Father only.” (Matthew 24:36)  When the groom’s father said it was time, the husband would come unannounced to take his beloved to himself for the rest of his life.  


Consider how Jesus has done the same; He gave His life as a ransom for many.  He went to Heaven to prepare a place for us (John 14:1-3), and he has given us His Holy Spirit.  He is physically returning at the appointed time to receive to Himself the Bride (that’s us) whom He loves so much.  Knowing all of this, why would we turn to anything or anyone else other than Christ for our deepest needs?  Be faithful to He who is faithful to you.
