John 19:25-27 – Disciples of Jesus are willing to Change
"26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! 27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home." John 19:25-27
Set in our ways: Because it is comfortable, it is often more preferable for us to remain where we are. Being set in our ways may have some experience and wisdom behind it, but normally – our ministry and service does not stay the same forever. God wants us to be willing to change our attitude, direction, focus, and plans.
John receiving Mary into his home by order of Jesus would have been an incredibly big change. Another example of change as when the Apostle Paul and Silas desired to go into Asia (Acts 16:6-10), but the Holy Spirit would not allow them. Instead, He directed them to start churches in Macedonia. How many lost souls would continue to be lost if they did not obey the Spirit of God? How many blessings have we lost for our refusal to obey Him even though it meant changing what we were comfortable with?
Right response: Our right response to God is obedience; don’t become depressed. That does neither God or ourselves any good. It is okay to be nervous; God is unable to use prideful people. But it is not okay to say no to His will. We should not change simply because it is novel or different; we should change because Jesus is calling us to do a deeper work for him.
