Luke 22:54 - Prayer - A Bridge to God's Heart

The day continued to get darker; not only had Jesus struggled in prayer the entire evening, His enemies captured Him with weapons in the dead of night.  Now with Christ under the arrest of the Romans, Peter had to come to grasps with the fact that His Lord had been detained and all the disciples had fled.  Oh, how distant God must have seemed to Peter.  What else should he have done but bring all his concerns to God in prayer?

The difficulty was, Peter let the problems take his eyes off of the Lord.  There is no instance that Peter checked with God in the situation; instead, he sat by the fire and lied about who he was!  Let’s not beat up on Peter, we would probably have done the same.

If we are not careful, we will distance ourselves from God, from the fellowship of other Christians, and from the Bible.  All because something happened in our life that we don’t agree with.  How sad when that happens to us; when we start to fall away from the Lord, we must immediately talk to Him.  We must begin cultivating a thankful heart (1 Thessalonians 5:18), humble ourselves before the Lord, and become teachable.  He will show us the right direction when we are in a fix; it will be the direction that is just right for us. 

If you sense the distance between God and you, bridge it with prayer.  Not sure how to pray?  Just start talking to God; there is no right way to pray.  And there is no wrong way to pray … except not to pray at all.
