Mark 16:7 - Grace Whispering Your Name

Today, grace (God’s unmerited favor) is whispering your name, calling you back to God, and reminding you of the gentleness and goodness of the Lord Jesus.  While God has called out many names in the past, one of the notable ones is Mark 16:7 where the angel asks the women to specifically tell the disciples and “Peter” that Jesus was risen and that He would appear to them in Galilee.

What is significant is that Jesus did not specifically call John’s name (though he was loved) or anyone else’s name but Peter.  The last time Peter saw the Lord, the scriptures say he “wept bitterly”.  (Luke 22:62)  This weeping came about as a result of his realizing he denied Christ before other people; perhaps Peter remembered when His Lord said, “But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.” (Luke 12:9)  Perhaps Peter thought he had committed the unforgiveable sin; thankfully, his repentant heart was evidence that this brief lapse was NOT the end of his walk with God.

Jesus extended the hand of grace to Peter even after He was risen, and He is extending that same hand of grace to you.  Don’t be trapped in the sidelines silenced by the guilt of your conscience; confess your sins and shortcoming to Him who can fully restore you!  After all, Jesus cares for you … He calleth his own sheep by name. (John 10:3)
