Unlike political leaders who demand supreme allegiance or friends who initially seem worthy to follow but then fall away, God does not ask us to follow Him out of mere duty. For those who have accepted Christ, they follow Jesus because they are God's child, because Jesus loves them, and because Jesus gave Himself for them and the whole world.
